POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Assistant Director of Development for Annual Programs, Washington National Cathedral
Department: Development
Reports to: Director of Development
Function: The Assistant director of Development for Annual Programs is responsible for seeking unrestricted gifts in support of the goals and annual operating budget of Washington National Cathedral. This person will conceive, initiate, execute and evaluate the fundraising activities of the Cathedral Fund and the premium fundraising programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop long-range plans and objectives for annual programs and update these plans as experience and circumstances require.
2. Design, plan and execute all fundraising activities in support of the Cathedral Fund including all direct mail campaigns (donor renewal and acquisition), the work of the volunteer solicitation Committee, andpersonal direct cultivation and stewardship of major gifts ($1,000+).
3. Manage the process of identification, evaluation, cultivation, and solicitation of leadership (major) and other gift prospects.
4. Direct and supervise the development office functions of premium fundraising (cards and calendars) and gift acknowledgment and stewardship.
5. Supervisory responsibility for the Annual Appeals Manager, two part-time administrative assistants, and personnel of the premium fundraising programs.
6. Occasional overnight and weekend travel may be required.
7. Design, plan and execute programs to cultivate, steward and solicit funds from foundations, corporations, and individuals for special programmatic needs and for on-going Cathedral programs. Duties include writing grant proposals, visiting foundations to make presentations either alone or with other Cathedral staff members, and assisting with staff report to the volunteer advisory committee.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree and minimum of seven years development experience.
2. Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
3. Direct experience in volunteer solicitation committee management.
4. Direct experience in personal gift solicitation.
5. Direct experience in direct mail fundraising programs from conceptional planning through implementation.
6. Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
7. Excellent oral and communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Word processing and spreadsheet skills desired with background in Microsoft Word and Excel.
9. Experience in writing successful grants to foundations.
10. Demonstrated ability with Raiser's Edge software program.
